2016 is to see the return of the most iconic fighting game: Street Fighter. Capcom are officially calling it Street Fighter V (that’s five if you aren’t up on your Roman numerals), making it the first full overhaul of the franchise since

Street Fighter V does not reinvent the fighting system of its predecessors: the characters move on a 2D plane, with strikes and special moves that can be chained together to form dramatic combos.
There are some changes around the core, however. First up, you can do small amounts of damage to any opponent while they are blocking with any move. But, you cannot finish them off like this - meaning you will need a clean blow to win the fight.
The focus attack from the fourth game has also been removed, replaced by V-Gauge. Each character will have three of these new techniques that can be executed once the rechargeable V-Gauge is charged. There are the V-Skills, small moves that can be used at any time, the V-Trigger that unleashes a powerful move once the V-Gauge is full. And, finally, V-Reversals, which allows you to counter attacks while blocking.

Each of these V abilities are different depending on the character, and all of them can have a dramatic impact on the outcome of the fight. We are already excited for the first time we manage to pull off a V-Reversal followed by an explosive V-Trigger move against an online opponent.
Of course we will need to master these new abilities first - as will Capcom, as we doubt the game will be completely balanced out of the gate. That said, I am sure they will be aggressive with updates.
So far only Ryu, Chun-Li, M. Bison, Charlie, Birdie, and Cammy are confirmed. But there are certain to be plenty of new characters and old favorites joining this cast for the final release.
